Please let me know if you have any questions. -Michelle I found this video on one of my favorite blogs, Free Technology for Teachers (http://www.freetech4teachers.com/). The video is from TED Global in Scotland and it features a talk by Julian Treasure, who shares how to improve listening. I found it interesting and wanted to share.

Field Day is here!
Thursday, June 2, 2011 1:00-3:00 PM The long awaited field day is here! We will have plenty of centers for the students to rotate through. There will running, jumping, and water play. It is sure to be a fun day. Students MUST wear sneakers or closed toe shoes! It is difficult and DANGEROUS to have open-toed shoes. Students will be running and jumping. Students may wear swimsuits under their clothing. If they wear a swimsuit, PLEASE make sure they bring a change of clothes. Swimsuits are optional, but they will all be wet by the end of the day!!! It is your choice if you’d like them to wear their swimsuits. If students wear swimsuits, please have them wear shorts and a t-shirt over it for girls and a t-shirt for boys. Please put sunscreen on in the morning and send your child with a water bottle clearly labeled with their name and teacher. Please pack a change of clothes for students, including dry socks and underwear. If you want to volunteer to help out, please just show up. If you have any questions, please contact me. Thanks, Michelle Reichel [email protected] Field Day Checklist Before Field Day ð Sunscreen ð Hat (suggested) ð Tennis shoes or closed-toed shoes ð Water bottle labeled with student name and teacher name ð Swimsuit (suggested) ð T-shirt ð Shorts ð Good sportsmanship After Field Day ð Dry socks ð Dry underwear ð Dry Tennis shoes or closed-toed shoes (optional) ð Dry T-shirt ð Dry Shorts Today, I am sending home information for logging onto Study Island. It is a great resource for students to practice for the EOGs.
In most cases, the username is the child's first initial and last name@ MPE (e.g.: John Smith: JSmith@MPE). The password is PRIDE. If your child's last name has a space or hyphen, those are included in the user name (e.g.: John Smith-Jones: JSmith-Jones@MPE or Susie Snowflake Winter: SSnowflake Winter@MPE). Let me know if you need help. Reminder that there is no school this upcoming Friday due to a teacher work day.
Enjoy another long weekend! I strive to make independent reading a priority in my classroom. A lot of factors come to play in getting students interested in reading independently. A good indication that a child enjoys or wants to participate in independent reading is that he/she select books on his/her own and pick them up without having to be asked. If your child is struggling to pick up books around your house, you may want to talk to him/her about what type of reading interests him/her. I find that in third grade it is important for children to have a great deal of choice in their reading selections -- even if we don't deem it "high quality" reading. REMEMBER -- regardless of the quality, they are reading something AND that is the first step. The following link provides more information about fostering independent reading:
http://www.ldonline.org/spearswerling/Independent_Reading Thank you to all parents who helped out during our December learning experience, "Celebrations of Light". It was a great experience and I know that kids had a blast.
Also, thank you for your generous class gift. Mr. Reichel and I look forward to our night out. Thank you for your continued support! Michelle Parents,
Thank you so much for coming out today to our writing celebrations. The students were so excited. They have been working so hard in writing and I know it means so much to them that you were able to come. If you were unable to make this celebration, hopefully you can make the next one. Thanks to all the volunteers who brought in supplies. A special thanks to Brenda and Jeanne who helped coordinate all the volunteers. I could not do it without you. I appreciate your constant support and collaboration. I enjoy working with you and your children. Here's to 3 more successful quarters. -Michelle |
