Students will have weekly Study Island assignments. They will need to login to Study Island in order to find their assignment. If your child has limited or no access to a working computer at home, please let me know so that I can allow them to get on here at school.
To login on, go to www.studyisland.com. In most cases, the username is the child's first name and last name@ MPE (e.g.: John Smith: JohnSmith@MPE). The password is PRIDE. If your child's last name has a space or hyphen, those are included in the user name (e.g.: John Smith-Jones: JohnSmith-Jones@MPE or Susie Snowflake Winter: SusieSnowflake Winter@MPE). If your child's name is Suzanne, but they go by Sue, the user name would be the complete first name. Let me know if you need help. Check out our Student Blog. Your child can show you how to log in. Since it is password protected only the members of our class can view the posts. All posts must be approved by me. This will prevent any cyber-bullying, unacceptable posts, etc.
I am really excited about this new form of communication between teacher-student, student-student. Right now, we are just gaining some experience with how the whole process works. Please support your child by allowing them to access the blog at home. We just do not have the time or resources for everyone to get on at school every day. This project will help foster 21st century skills that students are expected to have upon graduation from high school. It will help build typing, writing, communicating, and technology skills. My hope is to eventually have a blog for math and language arts. Log in with your child to check out all the great communicating. Here is a sign-up sheet for conferences.
http://signupgenius.com/go/parent1760 Make sure you see the other post below about requesting and the questionnaire if you haven't yet. Thanks, Michelle COG-AT testing is this Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Remember, the best way to prepare your child is to make sure they get a good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast.
Here is an article to help you prepare your child: http://www.schoolcounselor.org/content.asp?contentid=283 The key is to not increase your child's stress level by stressing the importance of the test. Encourage your child to do their best and celebrate the completion of the test. Let me know if there is any other information you could use. To request a conference, please go to the following GoogleDoc form:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?hl=en_US&formkey=dGdzaE1NZGtyaHFDdmhWUVdiTF94SWc6MQ#gid=0 After requesting a conference, please fill out the following questionnaire, so I can plan our conference accordingly: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?hl=en_US&formkey=dGdEZmZtWUI3ZUlURU9VSzBXV3JQUlE6MQ#gid=0 I will get back to you about a date and time for our conference. Thanks. Please check out the Scholastic Book Order tab under more... on the link bar at the top of the webpage.
We would love to get resources for our classroom. With every dollar spent, we earn points for books and other resources. AND, if you place your order online, we get a free book!
Here is the Open House PowerPoint. Let me know if you have any questions. If you attended and I did not answer your questions during my presentation, please let me know. I will do my best to answer any questions you may have.
Some of you were wondering more about the End of Grade Tests. Here is a link to my EOG page from last year (http://mrsreichel.weebly.com/eogs.html). I have not had a chance to update it yet for this year's testing dates. I had a few questions about the AIG program at Mills Park. I know very basic information about it. I encourage you to contact Dyane Barnett or Cathy Kimble our AIG/Explorers teachers. Their website is http://blackboard.wcpss.net/webapps/portal/frameset.jsp?tab=courses&url=/bin/common/course.pl?course_id=_23202_1. Hopefully, I answered some of the questions you had left from Open House. Thanks! -Michelle These past 2 days have been wonderful. I have enjoyed spending time getting to know the children. I know we will learn a lot and have fun this year.
I think I was especially impressed by how quickly they seem to be picking up the routines and procedures. This is a true indicator that their parents have set a great foundation at home. (Thank you for that.) I spend a great deal of time fostering independence in my students each year. I can tell that this group will succeed in becoming strong, independent young people. This weekend, as I brace for whatever bits of Hurricane Irene we may get, I will put all of your e-mail addresses into my contact list and send a test e-mail. Also, I think I have hammered out our weekly schedule. I will post it on this site and also send it via e-mail. Just know that, as in all things in education, it is subject to change. On Monday, I will be sending an official Welcome Letter. I have held off on sending it until I had a schedule put together. This will come home in your child's homework binder. It will highlight some procedures in our class, as well as at Mills Park Elem. It will have a portion for your signature, as well as your child's, that will need to be returned to school. I will also keep a copy posted on our website. Have a great weekend! -Michelle Yesterday was such a great first day. Thank you for helping your child be prepared and ready for school. I look forward to getting to know them more and working in a partnership with you throughout the year to help them be all that they can be.
